A PROBE is continuing into a blaze which severely damaged a cricket club pavilion.
Detectives and firefighters have confirmed the source of the blaze, which tore through Seaham Park Cricket Club, was rubbish which caught fire close to the Byron Terrace building, between Friday night and Saturday morning.
While they are treating it as suspicious, investigators are looking into what happened in the lead-up to the clubhouse catching light.
Parts of the pavilion, which had recently been redecorated ahead of the start of the new season, date back 80 years.
The value of the damage caused to the building, owned by the town council and leased to the club, is being assessed.
