POLICE arrested two men after a stabbing.
The arrests come after a 27-year-old was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital needing treatment for a stab wound to his lower back.
At 6.57pm on Sunday, police received reports of an assault at a house at Maypole Close, Southwick.
The injured man’s condition was not described as life threatening but police launched an investigation to discover how he had sustained the puncture wounds.
Inquiries led to the arrest of the two men, aged 32 and 30, on suspicion of wounding.
The pair were then questioned but have since been bailed pending further investigations.
A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: “At this stage, it’s believed those involved are known to each other.”
Police believe the stabbing happened inside the property and say there was no danger presented to members of the public.
However, officers are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
Police are also carrying out inquiries in the nearby area to establish the circumstances leading up to the assault.
