Pair in court after attack in Sunderland city centre

TWO men have appeared in court accused of an unprovoked attack on a Sunderland reveller.

Wayne Burnett and Thomas Robson are said to have set about the man after meeting him while walking through the city in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The pair were at Sunderland Magistrates’ Court yesterday facing charges of assault causing grievous bodily harm.

Burnett, 26, of Grindon Lane in Springwell, and Robson, 20, of Akeld Mews, Sunderland, did not enter any pleas and were remanded in custody.

District Judge Helen Cousins sent their case to Newcastle Crown Court, where they will appear on September 8.
