OAP’s mobility scooter stolen

THIEVES have stolen a mobility scooter from outside a shop.

It was outside Sainsbury’s in Station Terrace, East Boldon, between 9.30pm and 10pm on Thursday, July 10, when it went missing.

When the owner – a woman in her 60s – returned, the burgundy Shoprider mobility scooter with a grey seat and a wicker basket on the front, was gone.

Neighbourhood Inspector Dave Hudson said: “The scooter is extremely important to the owner as she suffers from a number of medical conditions which make it difficult for her to get around.

“It gives her independence and makes life easier for her, and we’re appealing for help to trace the whereabouts of the scooter and return it to her.”

Anyone who witnessed the theft or has information about the whereabouts of the scooter, or the person responsible, is asked to contact police on 101 ext 69191, quoting reference 369 11/07/14, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
