THE woman in charge of Northumbria Police is to be investigated over misconduct claims.

Chief Constable Sue Sim has been “formally notified” by Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Vera Baird complaints that have been made by officers over allegations of her behaviour.

Mrs Sum has held the role since April 2011, having been in place on a temporary basis 12-months earlier.

She is the force’s first female Chief Constable.

It is understood Mrs Sim will not be suspended during the course of the investigation.

In a statement released by Northumbria Police Mrs Sim said: “I have this afternoon been formally notified by my Police and Crime Commissioner that she has received complaints from a group of officers containing allegations about my behaviour.

“She has determined, in accordance with police regulations, that the matter will be investigated.

“I have advised her that I will, of course, cooperate fully with the investigation and I am keen to do so at the earliest opportunity in the interests of Northumbria Police and the public we serve.

“It would not be appropriate for me to make any further comment at this time.”
