POLICE have named the man who died after he was found with serious head injuries in a back lane
Dean McMahon, 33, from Sunderland, died on Saturday in Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary.
He had initially been admitted by ambulance to Sunderland Royal after he was found at the rear of Carlisle Terrace in Southwick at around 10.30am on Tuesday, February 4.
Northumbria Police first thought he had been attacked, but officers have now said they do not believe Mr McMahon was the victim of an assault.
Two men who were with him in the time leading up to when he sustained his injuries were arrested in connection with the investigation after they voluntarily attended a police station.
They have been released on bail until early next month.
