POLICE are investigating the mystery death of a teenager who died just two days before his 18th birthday.
Police say inquiries are continuing into how Ryan Quinn, from Washington, died at a house in Gateshead.
Although it is not being treated as suspicious, a post-mortem examination also failed to reveal the cause.
Paramedics were called to a property in Shipcote Terrace, at 10.18pm, on Friday.
They were unable to save Ryan, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said: “We received a report from the ambulance service of concern for a male inside an address.
“Officers attended, and a 17-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene.
“A report is being prepared for the coroner.”
Friends paid tribute on social networking sites, including Facebook and Twitter.
Amber McCann said: “Can’t get it out my head. Just wish it wasn’t true.
“Quinny, I’m so proud to say I was actually close to you, to say I knew you well before you passed away, because you seriously were a lovely lad.
“I wouldn’t change anything about you.”
Gateshead Coroner’s Office said a post-mortem examination had failed to find the cause of death.
