A MAN has appeared in court charged with the murder of a Sunderland man.

Daniel Robert Oxley, 22, was at Peterlee Magistrates’ Court to hear allegations he killed Michael Outhwaite.

The body Wearside man Mr Outhwaite, 42, was found at a field at Willington, near Crook, in County Durham, on Friday morning.

A post-mortem examination has revealed that he died of stab wounds.

Dressed in a grey jumper, Oxley, of Murton, spoke only to confirm his name and age.

No application for bail was heard by the court, with chairman of the bench Mr Reay remanding him in custody.

He is set to appear at Durham Crown Court on Monday, September 29, at 10am.

Oxley was arrested after a member of the public found Mr Outhwaite’s body on the land behind Willington’s High Street.

An area around the town’s Cumberland Terrace was cordoned off for forensic examination, and officers remained in the town all day conducting door-to-door inquiries.
