A MUM carried out four thefts in the space of five days from the same store after losing out on child maintenance payments, a court heard.

Kayleigh Scott stole three jackets – each worth £49.99 – and another valued at £89.99 from Barbour and Son in Jarrow, from March 11 to March 15.

The 30-year-old, of Aylesford Mews, Sunderland, admitted stealing the £89.99 jacket from the store on March 15, when she appeared before South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court.

She asked the court to take the other three raids into consideration.

Rehana Haque, prosecuting, said; “On March 11, the defendant entered the outlet and went to the rear of the store.

“She picked up a jacket, valued at £49.99 and rolled it up and left the store, walking past all points of payment.”

Scott was later arrested by police and admitted all four offences.

Valerie Bell, defending, said: “She has come to court and pleaded guilty immediately.

“She has been having some financial difficulties, this is why the offences were committed. She is a single parent of two children.

“She had been receiving maintenance from her daughter’s father but, unfortunately, he lost his job.

“It was in these dire financial circumstances that the offences took place.

“She is sorry she finds herself back before the court.”

David Gouch, chairman of the magistrates, asked for a probation report to be prepared on Scott ahead of sentencing.

Scott will be back at the court for sentencing on April 27.

She was granted unconditional bail until then.
