POLICE investigating the murder of a pensioner have been granted more time to question a suspect.
A nationwide manhunt for former civil servant Graeme Jarman ended on Saturday afternoon when he was arrested at a library in Filey, North Yorkshire.
The 47-year-old was wanted in connection with the death of 77-year-old Judith Richardson, whose body was found in the hallway of her home in Hexham, Northumberland, on August 19.
Mr Jarman, of Delves Lane, near Consett, is being questioned by Northumbria Police officers.
Yesterday, police applied to Newcastle Magistrates’ Court for an extension to the amount of time they can keep Mr Jarman in custody for further questioning until noon today.
