A MAN approached a schoolboy claiming he was a relative.

Police are appealing for information after the suspicious incident.

At about 3.30pm on Monday, February 25, a man travelling on a Go Northeast bus in the Shiney Row area spoke to a 12-year-old boy and told him he was a relative, and asked the boy to accompany him.

The boy refused and got off the bus.

The man remained on the bus, which was travelling to Heworth.

The man, who got on the bus at the Dubmire bus stop in Fence Houses, is described as being in his late 30s or early 40s, with short dark hair and beard and a thin nose.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 ext 69191 or ring the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
