A MAN helped himself to wine and lager from a garage before leaving without paying.
Anthony Kirkley stole eight cans of Foster, Irn Bru, vodka drinks and a bottle of wine from the Murco garage, in Pallion, Sunderland.
He pleaded guilty to theft of £19.27 worth of alcohol, at Sunderland Magistrates’ Court.
Paul Doney, prosecuting, said the defendant walked into the petrol station at 6.40am, on March 30.
The 23-year-old took the booze off the shelves and left without paying.
CCTV was handed to police, who arrested Kirkley, of Jacques Street, Pallion.
Susan Grey, mitigating, said Kirkley had been drinking heavily before the offence.
He co-operated with police, she added, and pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity.
Kirkley was fined £70 by magistrates and ordered to pay a £20 victim surcharge, £85 towards court costs and £19.27 compensation to the garage owners.
