A MAN was smashed over the head with a bottle in a restaurant in Hetton.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the attack, which happened between 6.40pm and 6.50pm, on Friday, January 17, at the restaurant, in Market Street in the town.

The 45-year-old victim was hit over the head with a bottle when in the lobby area of the restaurant.

He suffered a cut to his head for which he received stitches.

The offender is described as aged around 19, 5ft tall, of medium build, with a small beard. He was wearing a white track suit.

He was in company with another teenage boy who was wearing a jacket, hoody and t-shirt.
