A MAN has been quizzed by police after a woman was raped.
The 38-year-old victim was subjected to the attack in Hendon.
After reporting it to police, detectives arrested a 31-year-old man on suspicion of rape. He was questioned and later released on police bail.
Police are reassuring residents that the attack is believed to have been isolated.
Sunderland East Neighbourhood Policing Team Inspector John Connolly said: “It is understandable when incidents like this happen it raises the fear of crime for the community.
“I would like to reassure residents, extra police officers will be in the area to answer any concerns they have.”
The attack took place in Toward Road, on Wednesday, at about 11pm.
The alleged rape comes 10 days after an 18-year-old was raped in a car.
The victim had been in a parked car with her attacker on Chester Road when she was assaulted near Penshaw Monument.
A 28-year-old was arrested on suspicion of rape and was released on police bail.
