A man was left with burns and a perforated eardrum after late-night attackers placed a firework in his hood which then exploded.
The cruel prank happened when the 21-year-old victim was walking along Hunter street, near Lowerson Avenue in Shiney Row, on November 5.
He was approached by three men between 10pm and 10.15pm, one of whom, unbeknown to him, put a firework in the hood of his top, which exploded as he walked away.
The victim suffered burn marks on his hand and a perforated eardrum as a result of the incident.
Police are carrying out enquiries to trace the three men and are asking any witnesses to come forward.
The incident came almost at the same time as a firework was set alight inside the doorway to a house in nearby Galaashiels Grove at about 10pm on the same night. No one was injured.
Police could not confirm whether or not the two incidents are linked.
