A MAN suffered serious head injuries during a late-night street attack.
The 20-year-old is in hospital in a critical but stable condition after the attack in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The man was walking along Front Street in Concord, Washington, at about 2am, when a fight broke out.
Investigating officers are trying to piece together what happened.
A 20-year-old has been arrested and released on police bail pending further inquiries,
Neighbourhood Inspector Paul Barrett, who covers the area, said: “Officers are carrying out inquiries to establish what happened and we’d urge anyone who was in the area and may have seen anything to contact police.”
Just hours later, in a separate incident, a 27-year-old man was walking along nearby Heworth Crescent when a man ran up behind him.
He started punching him in the head before running off.
The man suffered facial injuries and needed hospital treatment.
The attack was reported to police yesterday morning and inquiries are underway to find out whether or not a weapon was used.
The assault took place at about 11.45pm on Sunday.
