A MAN needed hospital treatment after he was attacked by thieves who raided his garage.
Police said the victim disturbed the crooks in the early hours of this morning when they broke into a garage at Ewesley Road, Sunderland.
The householder disturbed the thieves and one of them hit him on the head.
The thieves then made off on two mountain bikes, stolen from the garage.
Police are now appealing for witnesses.
Detective Sergeant Derek Ogle said: “This was a nasty incident and we are appealing for the public’s help to identify the people responsible.
“We would urge anyone who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area at around the time of the incident, or who is offered one of the bikes for sale, to contact us immediately.
“We have neighbourhood officers out and about in the neighbourhood to reassure the public.”
One of the stolen bikes is made by Specialized and the other is Trek.
Both are red and white.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact police on 101 ext 69191 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
