A WOMAN in her 60s suffered head injuries after an alleged bike thief ran into her.
The man is said to have tried to steal a bike from a cycle rack in Fawcett Street, in Sunderland city centre.
He then dropped the bike and made off, but injured a 63-year-old woman in the process.
She was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital for treatment as a precautionary measure.
Fawcett Street was closed to traffic for a short period whole officers carried out investigations.
A man was arrested at the scene and later charged by police on suspicion of attempted theft of a bike.
l Mark Cooper, 33, of Toward Road, was due to appear before Sunderland Magistrates’ Court today.
