A MAN appeared in court today after a 21-year-old had his neck cut close to a Sunderland Metro station.

Richard Lee Stoves, 28, of Milburn Street, Millfield, appeared before city magistrates charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The injured man was walking over the footbridge at University Station at 1.43pm on Sunday, September 22, when he was assaulted.

He was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital with a cut to the neck before later being released.

Stoves was arrested and questioned earlier this week before being charged.

He was remanded in custody following his appearance in court.
