A MAN accused of stealing a charity collection bottle will have his case heard at crown court.

Dominic Valente is said to have broken into cafe Jan’s Place in Sulgrave, Washington and took the bottle, which contained more than £700.

The 34-year-old appeared at Sunderland Magistrates’ Court facing charges of burglary, possession of heroin and handling stolen goods.

He entered no pleas to the charges. Magistrates heard that Valente was also accused of selling a stolen mountain bike worth £725.

Prosecutor Paul Donay told the court that the allegations were so serious, the case must be dealt with at Newcastle Crown Court.

Valente, of Azalea Terrace, Sunderland, will appear in Newcastle on April 17.

He was released on bail until then on the conditions that he abides by an electronic curfew and does not enter Sulgrave.
