Man in court over spate of Sunderland robbery bids

A man has appeared in court charged following a spate of robbery bids and break ins across Sunderland.

Daniel George Reay, 36, from Tudor Grove, Plains Farm, has been charged with attempted burglary, burglary, theft of a motor vehicle and two counts of attempted robbery.

The charges incidents happened on Monday.

He appeared before Sunderland Magistrates’ Court yesterday, where the case was committed to Newcastle Crown Court.

Reay, 36, was remanded in custody until his next appearance on Friday, September 11.

The first incident happened at around 2.35pm when a man tried to break into a house in Kitchener Street, then between 3.45pm and 4pm a house in General Graham Street was broken into.

At just after 4pm, police received a reports of an attempted robbery at Hylton Post Office and Costcutters, on Railway Terrace, South Hylton, followed by reports of an attempted robbery at William Hill, near the Willow Pond, on Hylton Road.
