A PASSENGER had his wallet stolen as he slept in his seat during a train journey.

The theft happened at around 5am on Saturday, 14 June, on a train travelling between Newcastle and Durham stations.

Officers would like to hear from anyone who recognises the woman pictured who they believe may have information which will assist their enquiries.

Detective constable Wayne Green said: “The 19-year-old male victim from York boarded the service at Newcastle with a group of friends after a night out.

“He fell asleep on the train with his wallet next to his hand on the drop down seat table.

“When he woke up he discovered it has been stolen.”

The wallet was later discovered by cleaning staff in a bin on the train, but £30 had been removed.

DC Green added: “We have followed a number of enquiries in attempt to trace the woman in the photos who we believe has information which can help us with our enquiries into this incident but to no avail.

“I would ask anyone who recognises her to please contact us immediately.”
