A MAN has been fined after he was found in possession of cannabis and morphine.
Christopher McGuigan was arrested after police stopped a car driving erratically in Washington on September 4, Sunderland magistrates heard.
Officers could smell cannabis when the 27-year-old stepped out of the black Nissan car, in which he was a passenger.
“The defendant produced a small grinder and a small amount of skunk cannabis, along with a strip of morphine sulphate tablets,” prosecutor Louise Harrison said.
McGuigan, of Birchfield, Fatfield, Washington, admitted possession of Class A and Class B drugs.
Philippa Wylie, mitigating, said: “He stopped smoking cannabis some time ago. He met up with some friends.
“They were smoking cannabis and he joined in. It was a one-off. It’s not something he does on a regular basis.
“He had forgotten he had the morphine on him. He was given them by a friend to try and help him with a wrist injury.”
Magistrates fined McGuigan £215 and ordered the drugs to be destroyed.
