A SUNDERLAND man is fighting for his life after suffering severe injuries during a street brawl.
Police investigating the attack on the 27-year-old have arrested four people on suspicion of assault: two men aged 26 and 21, a 19-year-old woman and a 17-year-old girl.
All four have been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
Officers are now appealing for witnesses to the incident in Cairo Street, Sunderland, at 2.15am on Monday, April 27.
A Northumbria Police spokesman said: “There was an altercation which resulted in the man being injured.
“He suffered serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to Sunderland Royal Hospital and later transferred to the Royal Victoria Infirmary, his condition is described as life threatening.
“Police are carrying out enquiries in the area, this is believed to be an isolated incident, however additional officers are on patrol to reassure the community.”
