Man beaten with metal bar in Sunderland

A MAN was left with a broken arm after being assaulted by a metal bar-wielding attacker at a Sunderland house.

The 31-year-old victim was visiting a house in Brandling Street, in the Roker area, when he was attacked inside the property by someone carrying a metal bar.

He then had his arm broken in the assault.

The man was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital for treatment on his injuries following the terrifying ordeal, but has now been discharged by doctors and is recovering at home.

A 28-year-old man has now been arrested on suspicion of assault over the attack, which police say took place at about 6.30am on Saturday.

He has been released on police bail.

Northumbria Police officers are looking for witnesses to the attack to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on the 101 non-emergency number or contact the Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
