A MAN has been arrested after a crash which cost the life of a pensioner.
Mary Gray, 76, of North Road in Hetton, was injured in the smash at Easington Lane, on May 20.
Mrs Gray, who was walking in the South Hetton Road area, was air-lifted to Middlesbrough’s James Cook Hospital, but died last Tuesday.
The rider and the passenger on a motorbike were also taken to hospital and released after treatment.
A 40-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving. A spokeswoman for Northumbria Police confirmed the man has been bailed pending further inquiries.
An investigation into Mrs Gray’s death was opened and adjourned yesterday by Sunderland Coroner’s Office.
