Man arrested after aggravated burglary

A MAN has been arrested following an aggravated burglary in Sunderland.

Just after midnight on Sunday, police received a report of two men wearing masks and armed with knives having entered an address on Polmuir Road, Plains Farm.

They threatened the occupant before leaving with property from inside.

No-one was injured as a result of the incident.

A 40-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary. He is currently helping police with inquiries.

Detective Sergeant Nick Lawrance, from Northumbria Police’s Major Crime Team, said: “We understand an incident like this will cause concern among the community.

“Thankfully no-one was hurt as a result of it and I’d like to reassure residents that we believe this to be an isolated incident.

“We have made one arrest and are conducting enquiries to make further arrests in connection with this incident.

“We also have officers in the area today and anyone with concerns should speak to them.

“We’d like to hear from anyone who may have seen the men in the street either before or after the incident as they may have key information to assist with our ongoing enquiries.”
