Man accused of attempted murder after Washington stabbing has case sent to crown court

A MAN has appeared before city magistrates accused of attempted murder after a stabbing in Washington.

John Robert Barron, 34, of Avon Terrace, Columbia, appeared briefly at Sunderland Magistrates Court this morning.

Wearing a grey sweatshirt and flanked by two security officers, Barron spoke to confirm his name, address and date of birth.

Solicitor Robin Ford made no application for bail and Barron was remanded in custody to appear at Newcastle Crown Court on Thursday, December 11.

A woman taken to hospital with stab wounds after police were called to a house in Avon Terrace early yesterday remains in a stable condition.
