A MAN appeared before Sunderland magistrates today charged with murder.
Mark Spalding is accused of stabbing 20-year-old Andrew Lucas to death at the weekend.
Andrew was found by ambulance crews near his home in Washington’s Warkworth Close on Saturday morning. He had been stabbed and died shortly after reaching the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead.
Spalding, 45, of Kestrel Close, Ayton, Washington, appeared before city magistrates this morning, charged with Andrew’s murder.
Dressed in a dark blue jumper and wearing spectacles, he spoke only to confirm his name and address.
Solicitor Gavin Sword made no application for bail and Spalding was remanded in custody to appear before Newcastle Crown Court at 10am on Wednesday.
