A visit to the region by former deputy prime minister John Prescott has been postponed following the terrorist attack in Manchester.

Labour candidate for Easington, Grahame Morris, has expressed his deepest sympathies to all those affected by the bombing, where the death toll now stands at 22.

In a tweet he also confirmed the campaign visit by Mr Prescott, who was due to be meeting people in East Durham today, has been postponed.

Emma Lewell-Buck, Labour candidate for South Shields, said: "Heartbreaking attack in Manchester last night, all campaigning in Shields cancelled today. Thoughts and prayers to all affected."
