A FORMER African president serving a 50 year sentence for war crimes is said to be suing Britain for being kept away from his family.

Former Liberian president Charles Taylor says being held in a jail in HMP Frankland keeps him away from his wife and 15 children in Africa.

He was convicted in 2012 for crimes including terrorism, murder, rape and using child soldiers during the civil war in Sierra Leone in the 1990s, and was recently moved to serve his sentence at the Category A prison in Durham City.
