Jail for man who drove at bailiff

A MAN who drove his car at a bailiff has been jailed.

Christopher Elliott flew into a rage after the bailiff enforced a court fine, Durham Crown Court heard.

The court heard Elliott drew alongside the bailiff’s van as they drove along Front Street in Sherburn Village before getting out and kicking the van.

Elliott, 39, of Usher Avenue, Sherburn Village, admitted dangerous driving.

Judge Peter Kelson QC jailed Elliott for nine months.

The judge told him: “I accept you have since shown remorse for your behaviour that day.

“But your driving was a danger to yourself, your victim, and other road users.

“Your victim was only doing the public duty which is part of his job.”

Elliott was banned from driving for a year.
