AN INQUEST is to be opened into the death of a solicitor found with stab wounds close to a running track.
Peter Maine, 56, who worked at Hall and Co in Easington Colliery, was discovered at Maiden Castle in Durham at 8am on Sunday, September 1, around 35 minutes after he was seen to leave his car in Old Elvet.
Paramedics tried to save him, but he was declared dead at hospital.
Police have said they are keeping an open mind about how he sustained the injuries, and they revisited the scene on Sunday as they sought out witnesses.
An inquest into the death of Mr Maine, a married father-of-two from Wynyard, will be opened tomorrow by the coroner at his office in Crook.
Mr Maine was under investigation at the time of his death in relation to allegations of mortgage fraud.
