AN inquest is set to open at Sunderland Coroner’s Court today into the death of John Sumner.

The body of the 26-year-old, from Sunderland, was found at Impetus Washington Recycling Centre, Wilden Road, Washington a week ago.

Police originally treated his death as suspicious but later said that nobody else was involved.

l Meanwhile, a coroner has reviewed the progress of inquests into the deaths of two teenage girls.

A short hearing took place yesterday at County Durham and Darlington Coroner’s Court in Crook into the cases of Sarah Clerkson and Daniella Formosa, both 14.

Sarah was found hanging at a house party in Spennymoor on Saturday, December 8.

She died shortly after at the University Hospital of North Durham.

Danielle was found dead at a children’s home in Consett on Tuesday, December 17.

The girls were originally from Sunderland and had both spent time in foster care.

Since Danielle’s death, Kevin Palmer, 40, has been jailed for sexually abusing her.

Coroner Andrew Tweddle opened separate inquests into the girls’ deaths last year.

A further review is expected to take place next month, before a date can be set for the inquests to conclude.
