Info appeal after Metro assault

POLICE are hunting a man after a student was mugged at a Sunderland Metro station.

The 21-year-old victim was standing on the entrance stairs to St Peter’s station at about 7.10pm. on Thursday, November 8, when he was punched several times in the unprovoked attack. His wallet and phone was also taken.

British Transport Police have now released CCTV images of a man they want to trace in connection with the assault.

Pc David Burns said: “A man left a Metro service which had just arrived into the station and walked down the stairs, when he approached the victim and slapped him on the back of the head.

“The victim was then subjected to a vicious assault, where he received several punches to the head and stomach, causing him to fall to the ground.

“While on the ground the victim was assaulted further and he discovered his phone and wallet were missing.”

Pc Burns added: “This was an unprovoked attack on the victim, and we really need to find the man responsible.

“Any information, no matter how small could greatly assist us with our inquiries.”

Anyone with information should contact British Transport Police on Freefone 0800 40 50 40 quoting B14/NEA of 15/01/13, or Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111
