STALKING victims are being urged to seek help.
Today is National Stalking Awareness Day and to encourage victims to get in touch, Northumbria Police has new information online offering advice.
The average length of time someone is stalked is two-and-a-half years, with 80 per cent stalked by someone they know.
Detective Superintendent Steve Wade said: “Sometimes people might think harassment is too trivial to report, but we’d ask people to let us know if they feel they are a victim and we’ll decide.
“Often problems can be nipped in the bud before they escalate, but we can only take action if we’re made aware of issues.”
