A FARE-DODGING train passenger turned on a transport worker who asked him to pay for a ticket.

The man was spoken to by staff after he travelled on a train from Seaham to Darlington without buying a ticket.

When he was challenged at the station barriers, he became abusive. After being taken to the travel centre, he continued the abuse and threatened another man.

British Transport Police (BTP) have now released an image of a man they would like to speak to in connection with their investigation into the incident.

Pc Andrew Cook, of BTP, said: “This was an unprovoked attack on a member of staff simply doing his job. The incident, in which he feared for his safety, has left him very shocked.”

The incident happened on May 29, at 2.30pm, but details have only just been released.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact BTP on 0800 40 50 40 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
