A PERVERT targeted eight victims in just one day during a terrifying spree of attacks on lone women and girls.
To most people, Carl Todner appeared to be a happy, working dad who had a long-term partner and bright future.
But he secretly stalked the streets in his silver car, preying on women and girls for sexual gratification, Newcastle Crown Court was told,
When the 27-year-old was caught by detectives, his mobile phone records showed he had also been posing as an underage girl on the internet to con teens into engaging in illegal sex chat and had a stash of indecent images of youngsters.
The court heard last November Todner, of Elgin Avenue, Seaham, had received a caution from police after being caught masturbating at a woman while sat in his car in a busy shopping area in Newcastle.
Within months of the ticking off, he embarked on the terrifying sex crime spree in March, attacking women and girls as they walked the streets of Sunderland and Jarrow on their own.
The youngest victim he targeted was just 11.
A total of five women and girls were physically attacked, the rest were approached and propositioned while Todner exposed himself.
Prosecutor Julian Smith told the court the first victim was targeted on March 9 as she walked home after a night out in Jarrow.
Todner grabbed the woman from behind, pinned her to the ground and sexually assaulted her.
On March 23, Todner preyed on eight women.
The first was sexually assaulted while walking home from Sunderland University. Later that morning, a teenager was attacked at Toward Road after Todner ran up behind her.
By 9am, Todner had travelled to Jarrow and attacked a teenager, and 90 minutes later he was back in Sunderland, where he offered to pay a woman £30 cash for sexual favours, while exposing himself from his car. A few minutes later, he did the same thing to another woman.
Todner had travelled to Silksworth by 11am, where he exposed himself to another woman from his car.
Less than half an hour later, he approached another teenager in the city and again exposed himself while offering cash. His final victim that day was an 11-year-old girl who was targeted in the Thorney Close area of Sunderland.
Todner offered her £20 cash and exposed his penis, prompting her to run away, saying: “I don’t talk to strangers”.
On March 25, Todner attacked a 14-year-old girl in Jarrow. Again, she was grabbed from behind and thrown to the floor.
He was arrested after police used CCTV from a bus passing to identify his car.
He pleaded guilty to sexual assault, causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, exposure, and making, distributing and possessing indecent photographs of children, and will be sentenced next week.
Tom Moran, defending, said: “The court sees these cases only rarely, happily, where complete strangers are approached.
“One of the troubling features of the case is that there was not the slightest clue he was someone capable of this sort of thing.”
