Relatives of tragic baby Reggie Young were today due to pay their respects at the youngster’s funeral at Sunderland Minster.
A service will be held at 12.15pm prior to an internment at Bishopwearmouth Cemetery.
The 20-day-old died in Sunderland Royal Hospital after he was bitten by the family dog at his home in Falkland Road, Ford Estate, on Saturday, June 20.
Dozens of flowers, teddies and messages were left in tribute to the infant outside the home he shared with parents Maria and Ryan and his siblings. A fund set up by well-wishers to help pay for funeral costs has so far generated more than £400.
An inquest into Reggie’s death was formally opened and adjourned at Sunderland Coroner’s Court almost two weeks ago. A Home Office pathologist failed to find the precise cause of death during a post mortem examination.
A full hearing will take place on November 12, while a 30-year-old man remains on bail after being arrested in connection with the investigation.
