INVESTIGATORS have figured out the whereabouts of a 8ft gnome after it was reported stolen.
The artwork went missing from the grounds of Durham Castle, sparking an appeal by police.
The gnome had been put on show in the Master’s Garden as part of a celebration of art run by one of Durham University’s college’s.
It was said to have been taken between midnight and 12.30am on Saturday.
But the officers who patrol the university and liaise with students and staff confirmed yesterday the gnome had been recovered after it was found by a porter in the castle.
