A girl has told how she was raped in a park by a man armed with a knife who slipped £10 in her pocket afterwards, a court heard.
Syed Ali is accused of forcing two teenage girls out of the Bridges Shopping centre in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, and into nearby Mowbray Park where he subjected them both to sex attacks.
The 46-year-old is alleged to have raped one girl and sexually assaulted the other in the bushes at the city recreation area on December 8.
Newcastle Crown Court heard how Ali told his two victims he was carrying a knife and warned they would get “hurt” if they did not leave the shopping centre and follow him to the park.
During evidence, the victim who had allegedly been raped told the jury how Ali said, “If you don’t come with me you will get hurt,” while in the shopping centre.
She told the court how they followed him to the park as he had threatened them with a knife.
When asked by Ali’s barrister why they did not tell anyone in the shopping centre he was threatening them she said: “He was standing outside staring at us, we were scared.”
She told the court how they were forced to follow him to the park as he had his hand in his pocket and “kept looking back”.
She added that she was raped by Ali who then stuck £10 in her pocket.
The second victim told the court how she tried to help the other victim by pulling her arm during the alleged rape.
She said: “I didn’t see the knife, he had his hand in his pocket all the time.
“He told us to follow him.
“He grabbed her jacket and forced her down to the floor.
“I was in shock, I was crying, I didn’t know what to do.
“He said ‘you move and she gets hurt’.
“I tried to grab her arm. She was crying, she told him to stop.
“He told me to watch in case anyone came.”
The second victim told the court how he kissed her on the lips and the cheek before sexually assaulting her in the park.
She also told the jury how Ali said he would pay her for sex if she met up with him at a later date.
She added: “He slipped £10 into her pocket for the sex and said ‘you will get your £10 for the sex on Monday afternoon’.
“We were in shock, I had to ring the police.”
Ali, formerly of Sunderland, claims he had consensual sex with the teenager who has accused him of rape.
He claims there was nothing more than a “hug and kiss” with the other girl.
Ali denies rape and sexual assault and is being tried by a jury.
The trial continues.
