POLICE are urging residents to keep their gardens secure after a spate of thefts.
It follows a number of reports where plants and garden ornaments have been stolen from gardens in High Barnes.
At about 10pm on Sunday, August 5, plant pots containing willow trees and conifers were stolen from the front garden of a house in the area.
It is believed the offenders were in a pick-up truck, possibly grey or silver metallic, which was last seen at around 10.10pm in Chester Road.
In a separate incident on the same night, garden ornaments and plant pots were stolen from an address in the Eden Vale area.
Among the items stolen was a free-standing red cast iron ornamental post box.
Officers are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen anything or know where the stolen items are.
Neighbourhood Inspector Dave Pickett said: “It may be that someone has bought these items without realising they were stolen property. In particular, the post box is very distinctive. If someone has innocently bought these we would ask them to contact us.”
Anyone with any information should contact Northumbria Police on 101 ex 69191.
