A HEADTEACHER is to face a retrial next year over claims she had sex with a 13-year-old boy in the late 1980s.
A jury at Durham Crown Court last week failed to reach verdicts in the trial of Anne Lakey, 54, who denied four counts of indecent assault and two of indecency with a child which were said to have happened when she was in her late 20s.
Mrs Lakey was a teacher at Sandhill View School at the time the alleged offences took place.
The alleged victim was not one of her pupils.
Her case was listed at Durham Crown Court before Judge Christopher Prince for a brief hearing, when prosecutor Caroline Goodwin said there will be a retrial.
“The Crown will seek to move to a second trial in this matter,” she said.
The trial, expected to last up to seven days, is due to start on Monday, January 19.
Mrs Lakey, a married mother-of-one from Stanley, County Durham, denies the allegations.
