AN investigation has been launched into a suspicious fire at a flat in East Durham.
A crew from Peterlee Fire Station was called to a flat in Yoden Road, Peterlee, after reports of a smoke alarm going off.
Watch manager Ray Sillito said there were two seats of fire.
One destroyed a bed. The other blaze was in the living room.
Firefighters spent 45 minutes at the scene.
Durham Police were called to the incident, which happened at about 10.50am on Thursday.
Mr Sillito said: “The fire is now under investigation by the police and fire service.
“There was nobody in the building at the time.”
