AN investigation has been launched following a suspected arson attack at an industrial estate in Washington.
A large number of tyres had been stacked against a building in Industrial Road, in Hartburn, and set alight.
Firefighters from Washington fire station were called to the scene at 6.17pm on Monday.
The fire, which had spread to the building itself, was tackled using three appliances and took over an hour to extinguish.
Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service has called in police to investigate as it is believed the blaze was started maliciously.
