Fire case in court

A MAN has appeared in court in connection with a suspected arson attack on a home.

Alan Carr appeared before magistrates in Peterlee after a blaze ripped through the first floor of a terraced house in South View, Murton.

No plea was entered to the charge of arson, recklessly endangering life, and the 58-year-old, of South View, was remanded in custody.

Firefighters were called to the house at about 5.50pm on Tuesday and the fire took more than three hours to put out.

The case was sent to Durham Crown Court, where Carr will to appear on Friday, September 27.
