Equipment stolen from Sunderland Royal Hospital

GARDENING equipment worth hundreds of pounds has been stolen from a Sunderland hospital.

The thieves targeted a storage container inside a secure compound at Monkwearmouth Hospital, in Newcastle Road, between 2pm on Tuesday and 8am on Wednesday.

A Stihl lawnmower, strimmer, leaf blower and hedge cutter, were stolen, along with a petrol jerry can and a watering lance.

Sunderland North Acting Inspector Dave Cole said: “This is quite specialist gardening equipment that has been stolen.

“It’s likely those responsible will attempt to sell the items on and I would ask people to be vigilant.

“If they are offered similar items for sale, we want them to let us know.

“We’re keen to hear from anyone who has any information about the burglary, whether they saw people acting suspiciously in the grounds of the hospital or know who those responsible are.”

Anyone with information about the burglary is asked to contact Northumbria Police on 101 ext 69191, quoting reference 228 of August 20, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
