Durham Police are advising residents not to be alarmed as they carry out controlled explosions at their headquarters today.

Police along with colleagues from the Army Ordnance Disposal, have carried out several controlled explosions on Aykley Heads Street, near to Police HQ, to destroy unwanted ammunition.

In a statement on their Facebook page Durham Constabulary said: "The explosions were to destroy unwanted ammunition, obviously this is an unusual event, but there is no reason to be alarmed and we apologise for any disruption."
