A THIEF went into McDonald’s and took away a restaurant worker’s mobile phone.
Stephanie Daley, who had just finished her shift, put her white iPhone 5 on the counter as she chatted to colleagues, Sunderland magistrates were told.
But Allan Taylor pounced and took the £500 phone.
Ms Daley only noticed she did not have her phone when she got to her car and went back into the restaurant to find it.
Magistrates were told she dialled the number and heard her distinctive ringtone – a quacking duck – among a group, which included Taylor.
The group was confronted, but became aggressive and left the store.
Ms Daley viewed CCTV and saw Taylor, of Stridingedge, Blackfell, Washington, picking up the phone and handing it to a second male, who was dealt with separately. The other man then put it into his pocket.
Taylor was arrested and initially denied the offence despite being showed the CCTV footage but later admitted theft.
He was handed a 12-month supervision order and a two-month 7pm to 7am curfew and told to pay £250 compensation and a £60 victim surcharge.
