A DRIVER still drunk from the night before was caught after an anonymous caller tipped police off.
Stephen Elliott’s Ford Fiesta was stopped by officers in Alston Cresecent, in Seaburn, at 1.15pm on May 19, Sunderland magistrates heard.
“When the defendant was spoken to, he smelled strongly of intoxicating liquour,” prosecutor Glenda Beck said.
The 58-year-old, of Martindale Avenue, Seaburn, was found to have 69 microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml of breath – almost twice the 35 microgramme limit. He pleaded guilty to drink driving and was banned from driving for 17 months and fined £215
Anna Haq, defending, said Elliott had never been in trouble before and called it “a silly mistake the morning after”.
